When Jerry Hyman ’69 made his gift to Florida Atlantic University, his parents were on his mind. He credits them with instilling the desire to always be curious and learn more about the sciences.

Jerry earned four degrees at Florida Atlantic University:

  • B.A. in Mechanical Engineering
  • B.A. in Physics
  • M.A. in Physics
  • M.A. in Counseling Psychology

As a lifelong learner, Jerry hopes his gift will inspire future generations to become as excited about the sciences as he has been.

Jerry created the Nat and Dorothy Hyman Endowment Fund, which will fund the “NDH Science Lecture Series” to honor the memory of his parents. Like his parents, Jerry hopes to encourage and inspire students and community members who are interested in the sciences.

The NDH Lectures will bring leaders in the sciences to Florida Atlantic University for students, faculty and the community to learn from free of charge. Created with a blended gift, the lecture series began in 2022, and endowed funds will ensure that it continues in perpetuity.

The most recent lecture held last fall focused on one of Florida’s most pressing environmental issues—water quality. Sarah E. Hobbie, Ph.D., a researcher and professor at the University of Minnesota, presented “Managing Pollution of Urban Waters: Sources and Solutions.”
