Ken Keaton's Legacy Gift Will Help Students Live Their Dreams

Ken Keaton has been a professor at FAU since 1990. He came to South Florida from Nashville to attend the University of Miami as a music major. He continued there, completing his master's and Ph.D.

Dr. Keaton once had a student who suffered brain damage in an accident. Ken found a way to uncover the young man's talent and tap into his determination to succeed. Now a doctor of musical arts himself, the former student is living his dream. "I know I am doing something here that changes lives," Ken says.

Giving back to FAU is another way Dr. Keaton impacts lives. He has named the FAU Foundation as a beneficiary in his estate plan. When he passes, a portion of his assets will create a scholarship to benefit undergraduate or graduate students in the Department of Music.

By using a deferred gift, Ken will have unlimited access to his income and assets during his lifetime. After that, the plans he put in place will leave a deep and enduring impact upon music students at FAU in perpetuity.

"I spent 15 years as the associate dean of our College of Arts & Letters and have been a music professor here for 25 years," Ken says. "The opportunity to help tomorrow's students realize their dreams of a music education seems the most natural thing to do."
