Dr. Elizabeth Force’s decision to make a significant gift from her estate to the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing at FAU was the natural result of her passion for research. She loved science as a child and wanted to find cures for diseases. After a distinguished career at Merck, which included working on the polio vaccine, her passion will now continue through the Dr. Elizabeth E. Force Chair for Healthcare Research.

“It makes me happy to know that someone’s full-time job will be to lead research,” Elizabeth said. “The information FAU nursing students gain will continually stimulate the highest level of care for our community.”

Dr. Force earned a Ph.D. from George Washington University and was the only woman in her pre-med program at Temple University. Her challenges were many, but she says, “I believe there is something inside each of us—a power we possess—that emerges when we really believe that what we are doing is right.”

She suggests that others think about what they might wish to create at FAU. “Contact the University about your dream,” she said, “and don’t be surprised if you just might be able to make it come true.”
